Recession Advice
The United Kingdom is officially in a recession and the effects are being felt by businesses and consumers alike. East Hampshire District Council has adopted a series of measures to attempt to help, including paying invoices within ten days to improve cash flow for businesses.
Local businesses need not face the recession alone. We can direct you to a wealth of business advice, practical information and support as well as specific local schemes to help local businesses. Together with our partners, we are constantly looking for ways and means of helping local businesses.

Businesses
Business Rates
There are several 'exemptions' which apply to business rates, including Small Business Rate Relief Scheme.
This is available for occupiers of businesses with a rateable value of less than £15,000 (subject to qualification).
Over 1,000 businesses within East Hampshire are currently claiming the relief, however we believe that there are still businesses that could take advantage of the scheme. Therefore, to encourage businesses to claim Small Business Rate relief, we will soon be launching a targeted campaign aimed at increasing take up.
Grants/ Funding
There are also plenty of opportunities to receive the vital funding businesses need, including:
- the Start-up Business Incentive Scheme
- the Village Community Grants Scheme
- LEADER funding for rural businesses
