Cycling for Health

cyclingCycling in East Hampshire

There are many cycling opportunities within East Hampshire and indeed throughout Hampshire. You will find details of two suggested routes attached to this page as pdfs:

Alton route
A family cycle ride, held in June 2006, featured an 11 mile circular route along the quiet contry lanes between Alton, Bentley and Binsted. Two shorter routes are also available of approximately 3 and 7 miles.

Horndean/Rowlands Castle route
A pleasant 8.5 mile circular route starting and finishing at Horndean Memorial.  Takes a leisurely ride on quiet country lanes through the villages of Horndean, Rowlands Castle, Finchdean and Blendworth.  Optional shorter routes of 6.5 miles and 4 miles.

For other routes, more about cycling in Hampshire, and road safety information, visit Hampshire County Council's website.

Cycle Fundraising Events

Tour De Hampshire Sponsored cycling event   July 14th – July 21st 2008

Intrepid Open Sight Outreach Officer Steve Geary (who is registered blind) and his colleague Sim Yardley will be cycling in tandem around the county visiting the 22 volunteer run Open Sight Clubs.

Steve and Sim will be cycling through Petersfield and Alton on Wednesday 16 July.

Steve says: "I haven't ridden a tandem for around ten years now. It will be hard work but I'm very much looking forward to it. It will be great to see all our volunteers and club members on the way round. I hope together we can all raise plenty of funds to continue providing our vital services to sight impaired people across Hampshire".

Open Sight are hoping that other cyclists will want to participate in this event, by undertaking a sponsored leg of the journey or even arranging their own cycling event to support Steve & Sim!

Please contact Robbie Beer PR and Community Fundraiser at Open Sight for sponsorship forms if you wish to support the event or participate.
