Cycling for All

East Hampshire District Council is involved in the development of a project called 'Cycling for All' (previously known as 'Wheels for All'). The district wide project includes provision and access to cycling opportunities for all people, but also specifically for people with disabilities.

Ultimately the project aims to provide both led rides and independant cylcing opportunties across the EHDC area.  It is planned to do this through the provision of adapted and standard bikes for people who wish to use cycling to benefit their health.  Plans are in place to initiate a dedicated centre at Alice Holt, various satellite sites in other locations across the district and a mobile bike service for more rural areas.

The initial meeting for this project was held in 30th November 2006 and over 40 organisations across the district expressed their support for the project.  From this meeting a steering group of 12 partners was set up.  The good news that a funding application made through the group for a dedicated cycling development officer has been successful was received in late July 2007.  Clive Andrews, the new CTC Cycling Community Development Officer is now in post and is located at Alice Holt Woodland Park.

Clive will be working with the Cycling for All Steering Group and helping to develop the project initially in and around Alice Holt but later across the whole district.  Please contact him either on his e-mail (above) or on 077 1772 1511 if you have any good ideas for developing cycling opportunities in the East Hampshire district.  Later on in the development of the project, the post is likely to be hosted at EHDC, Penns Place, Petersfield.

Mobile Cycle Project
The mobile cycle project forms part of a later development of 'Cycling for All'.  However, as part of the contribution to be made by EHDC, 3 trikes and 1 tandem have been purchased and are stored at Alice Holt.  Until the mobile project is up and running these cycles are available for hire through Clive Andrews either by e-mail or on 077 1772 1511.  Clive is based at Alice Holt.  Back rests for the trikes and tandem are avaialble and can be fitted on request.  Please contact Clive directly if you wish to use these cycles.  Future planned developments include making similar cycles available at other sites across the district.

For further information or if you wish to be involved in this project please contact the Active Lifestyle Coordinator - Rural for further information.

The East Hampshire Cycling for All project is based upon work that has been carried out by the National Wheels for All campaign.
