In addition to information held on the public register, requests for additional site specific contaminated land information can be made to the Council. This is referred to as a 'Contaminated Land Search'
Requests can be made in writing or by telephone and can be provided over the telephone or in writing.
If your request is for a search to be provided in writing:
- It must be accompanied by a local map clearly marking the boundary of the land
- Be reasonable and specific in the questions asked e.g.
- "is the council aware of any land within 250 metres of the site which has been used for waste disposal to landfill?"
- “is the land on or adjacent to a potentially contaminated land”
- There is a charge to cover administration costs.
- Where there is a charge due this should be received by the Council before the search is commenced. Cheques made payable to 'EHDC'
All contaminated land searches provided in writing include a 20 page plus report, incorporating information on geology, hydrology, hydrogeology, potentially contaminated land sites, waste management, current land use and environmetally sensitive sites.
If your request is made by telephone:
- An address with a postcode should be provided
- Be reasonable and specific in the questions asked e.g.
"is the council aware of any land within 250 metres of the site which has been used for waste disposal to landfill?"
“is the land on or adjacent to a potentially contaminated land”
- It is free of charge.
At present, no land is registered as contaminated land. The Council hold a list of potentially contaminated sites obtained from different sources including Parishes within East Hampshire, the Environment Agency and historical maps. Information held on the Council's Geographical Information System (GIS) remains incomplete and is currently being updated.
A key piece of information used to determine potentially contaminated land is that of historical land use. Please follow this link to see a list of previous industrial land uses that may have led to contamination of the land.
