    Bentley Conservation Area Bentley

Bentley is one of 43 conservation areas in the District. Bentley was first designated in 1968, and extended in 1978 and 1993. Each conservation area is now being reviewed through the preparation of a character appraisal. This process is based on national guidance.

Purpose and Objectives of the Character Appraisal

    • To clearly identify what it is about the character or appearance of the area which should be preserved or enhanced, and set out the means by which that objective is to be pursued.
    • Make recommendations for extensions or reductions to the boundary of the Conservation Area where appropriate.
    • Make a clear assessment and definition of the area’s special interest and the action needed to protect it.
    • Improve the understanding of the historical context and generate awareness.
    • Encourage sympathetic enhancements and provide guidance for future development, planning policy and practice in the area.
