Heritage - Conservation Areas
What is a conservation area?
Conservation Areas are defined in law as “an area of special architectural or historic interest the character of which it is desirable to preserve and enhance”.
What does that mean?
It means if you own a property in a Conservation Area you will need to apply for permission or give notification to do certain work to your building and to trees. This work includes
- demolition
- new development
- change of use
- advertisements
- works to listed buildings
If you want to find out if you’re in one of the 43 designated Conservation Areas in East Hampshire then you can check the online mapping system, but for up to date information, always check with the Heritage Team on 01730 234214.
