Council Tax

council taxCouncil Tax is a property based tax which is payable on most domestic properties. A domestic property is usually a house or a flat but it also means other types of property where people can live such as a houseboat, a caravan, or a 'granny flat' for instance.

Some of the Council Tax which we collect we keep to help to pay for the services we provide. The remainder is collected by us on behalf of Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Constabulary, Hampshire Fire and Rescue and in most cases the parishes.

How much does it cost ?

The District Council has 40 parishes, each parish may set its own precept (Council Tax) therefore Council Tax varies from one parish to another. Please click here for a full list of Council Tax charges for 2008/09.
