Benefits
East Hampshire District Council is working hard to make sure that people of all ages and backgrounds are aware of what benefits they may be able to claim.
How benefits work
If you are on a low income you may be eligible for benefit to help pay your council tax bill or your rent. This is a means tested benefit and the council will look at your income and savings before deciding whether you qualify.
Any council tax benefit awarded will be deducted from your council tax bill, and any housing benefit is usually paid straight into your bank account.
Are you eligible?
Our online Benefits Calculator will help you decide whether you may be eligible for this benefit. Please note that this calculation is an estimate only and based on the information provided. You must make a claim for a full evaluation of your circumstances. You can make a claim here.
Report a change in your circumstances
You should also let us know immediately, if your circumstances change, as any overpayment must be paid back to the council.
Use our online change in circumstance form here to let us know what has changed.
Claim Discretionary Housing Payment
If you have been awarded Housing and or Council Tax Benefit, but it is less than your eligible rent or Council Tax, and you are in financial difficulty, you may be entitled to some extra help called a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP). Use this form to make your claim for a DHP.
