Applying for Housing Benefit and or Council Tax Benefit

How do I claim?

You can download East Hampshire District Council’s Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit form here. Please ensure that you e-mail the Benefit Section at benefits@easthants.gov.uk confirming that you intend to make a claim for benefit. Please ensure that you provide the following information:

  • You and your partners (if applicable) name and date of birth
  • The full postal address for the property in which you wish to claim
  • A contact telephone number although not a requirement would be useful should we need to contact you direct

It is very important that you complete each section on the form and tick each yes or no box. If the form is not properly completed it may be returned to you and it will delay your claim.

If you need help to complete the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit form please contact the Benefit Section by sending us an e-mail to benefits@easthants.gov.uk .

Jobcentre Plus

Alternatively if you are of working age you can make your claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit at the same time you make your claim for Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance or Incapacity Benefit. You will need to contact the Jobcentre Plus offices on 0845 603 2953. In order to help the Jobcentre Plus officers deal with your call quickly and efficiently, please make sure you have the following information to hand when you make your call.

Details required by the Jobcentre:

  • Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Contact telephone number
  • Marital status
  • National Insurance number
  • Partner’s details
  • Dependant’s details
  • Preferred type of work
  • Recent work History

Pension Service

If you are of retirement age, 60 years and above, and would like to know more about benefits that you may claim please contact the Pension Service on 0800 99 1234 or look at The Pension Service web site.

If you are in the process of making a new claim for Pension Credit, the Pension Service will ask you if you wish to make a claim for Housing Benefit and or Council Tax Benefit.

The Pension Service will issue you with a claim form on behalf of East Hampshire District Council. The form is designed to be quick and easy to complete. Sometimes you will be asked to complete a supplementary form as well. For example:

  • If you pay rent to a private landlord link
  • If you are responsible for dependant children (children under 18 years of age)link
  • If you have other adults living with you link

It is important that you complete and return the claim form as soon as possible in the pre addressed envelope provide to you by the Pension Service. If you delay in sending in your form, you could lose benefit.
