What do I do if I disagree with the Council's decision about my Benefit?
It is important that if there is something you do not agree with, or if you think we have not worked out your benefit correctly, you write and tell us. We must receive this letter within one calendar month of the date shown at the top of your benefit notification letter. If you think you are not getting enough benefit, and you do not tell us within one calendar month of our original decision, we will only be able to amend your benefit from the Monday following the date we receive your letter.
You can:
- Ask us for an explanation of how your benefit has been worked out
- Ask us to look at the decision again and change it if we think it is wrong
- Appeal against the decision. If you appeal against the decision an independent tribunal administered by the Appeals Service will hear your appeal.
Further details can be found in the Leaflet "What can I do if I think the decision about my Housing or Council Tax Benefit is wrong" if you e-mail the Benefit Section at benefits@easthampshire.gov.uk we will send a leaflet to you. Please ensure that you quote your full name and address in your e-mail.
