Introduction
East Hampshire District Council fully supports Hampshire County Council in their role, as the the transport authority for the area, in preparing and carrying out a programme of measures designed to promote road safety. One of the best examples of joint working has been the initiative to cut down the number of motorcycle casualties along trunk roads such as the A 272 and the A 339.
Main Aims:
Hampshire County Council's Road Safety team aim to do the following:
- Carry out studies into road accidents and plan programmes of action designed to reduce casulties.
- Ensure that improvement schemes are audited to reduce the possibility of accidents when the schemes come into use.
- Promote highway engineering measures and programmes of road user education, training, publicity and encouragement which specifically assist vulnerable road users.
- Encourage and co-ordinate the work of District Road Safety Councils and liaise with police and other agencies over road safety matters
