Alton Beer Festival sold out
Alton Summer Beer Festival 2007 at the Alton Maltings Centre was a complete sell-out.
More than 1000 people went to the event and sampled local beers, wine and ciders. In fact over 4000 pints were drunk!
The winning beer of the festival was Triple fff’s ‘Moondance’ which also won the winter festival in February.
The festival was opened by Alton Town Mayor Robyn Fitzer at the Alton Malting Centre, which is a wonderful venue for the beer festival.
The festivalgoers not only enjoyed a great rage of beer but glorious sunshine on the courtyard of the wonderful Maltings building. It was indeed popular and extremely crowded at lunchtime. During the evening the people were drawn inside not only for the beer but the wonderful live music by Mark Hoares Boogie Woogie band.
The festival was a total success raising over £5,000 for local charities (charities will be announced at a later date.
A mystery beer donated by the Three Horseshoes at East Worldham had the drinkers guessing. The beer was from Thwaites Brewery, called Lancaster Bomber, and if you want to sample more it will be at the Three Horseshoes later this week.
At the winter festival we did a survey asking people if they were willing to help us go green and reduce our carbon footprint by re-using old Alton beer festival glasses. Nearly half brought back their old glasses and received their free glass of beer, resulting in a tremendous success.
The winning beers to receive the “Slaphead Trophy” were first Triple fff’s Moondance, second Stonehenge Brewery Danish Dynamite and third Bowman’s Brewery with their beer called “Swift One”. Also very popular was Mr Whiteheads “Strawberry Cider”, and for those driving, free Apple juice was consumed - in fact a total of 10 gallons disappeared (this was kindly donated by Mr Whitehead).
