Enthusiastic response to Petersfield "Green Christmas" festivities on
Friday 7 December

The Association of Petersfield Businesses (AoPB) launched the concept of 'Green Christmas' just a month ago and already the response from the community has been positive and enthusiastic. All three elements of the event on Friday 7 December -a procession through the town, a market, and entertainment in The Square linked through the 'Green' theme - have captured the imagination of many local businesses and community groups.

For example Liss Scouts will take part in the procession and have volunteered to help with marshalling; they also plan to sell 'green' candy floss in The Square. This will be just one of 16 stalls already booked, offering a wide range of local or green products, many of them festive, from turkeys to tinsel – green of course!

The Roc-it Dance Company from Bordon will perform as part of the varied entertainment programme, also with a 'green' theme.

Petersfield Scouts, who celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2008, are absolutely thrilled to be chosen as the charity to be supported by the event and will be playing a key role in helping the AoPB in the final run-up to the event and on the day itself.

"We are delighted with the response so far but there is still the opportunity for more businesses, groups and individuals to join in," said Guy Cheeseman, Chairman of the Christmas committee. "This event is all about the Petersfield community coming together and supporting each other – this is your town and we urge everyone to get involved.

"Working in partnership with the Greening Campaign our aim is an evening of fun for all the family whilst underpinning the Campaign message and offering people practical ideas and advice as to how they can have a 'green' Christmas."

The deadline for booking a place in the procession, a stall in The Square or confirming a part in the evening's entertainment is Wednesday 31 October.
