Make A Difference Day in East Hants

The network of Hampshire Volunteer Centres are working together to promote volunteering and The Volunteer Centre East Hampshire is holding a Volunteer Manager's Forum on 31 October at the Alton Maltings Centre as part of the Make A Difference Day activities.

Volunteer managers from a range of voluntary and community organisations will be looking at topics such as youth volunteering, supported volunteering, virtual volunteering and accreditation for volunteers.

Make A Difference Day on the 27 October is the biggest National day of volunteering, and this year the campaign has been extended to cover the whole month. For the first time, the network of Hampshire Volunteer Centres are working together to promote volunteering and will be announcing a new Hampshire–wide volunteering telephone number, a new web page and a mobile number for texting. This will be accompanied by radio coverage and situations vacant advertisements in local papers.

Sue Greene from the Volunteer Centre said "National volunteering events can be a great way for local organisations to raise the profile of volunteering. This year, there is an added bonus of a Hampshire campaign that we hope will make a difference by enabling more people to find out about and get involved with volunteering."

She added that in East Hampshire there are many ways to make a difference and contribute to the local community. If you have any decorating skills, then the Kingsley Centre in Kingsley would like to hear from you. Now their new extension has been completed, they are looking for people to help decorate and smarten up the building.

In Bordon the Furniture Helpline has just lost two valuable volunteers who have been successful in finding paid work, and they are keen to hear from anyone who could help out in the warehouse.

The Petersfield Music Festival is now seeking more committee members and in order to continue with their productions they are looking for the vital roles of chairman and treasurer. Someone who has recently retired from business and has an interest in music would be ideal.

In Clanfield, Horndean and Rowlands Castle the Voluntary Care Groups would be delighted to hear from anyone who could give a small amount of time as drivers to help people collect their prescriptions or attend appointments. These are flexible volunteering roles and would suit someone who has a couple of hours free every now and then.
