Open Sight Outreach Canoeists Set Off

Best Wishes from George Baker !

The actor George Baker MBE waved goodbye to Open Sight Outreach Officer Steve Geary and his colleague Sim Yardley from Devizes Wharf slipway at 10 am on Saturday 14th July. Steve and Sim are paddling their kayaks from Devises to Westminster Bridge to raise money for Open Sight Outreach.

George said ” Canoeing from Devizes Wharf to Westminster Bridge, to raise money for the charity Open sight, is my friend Steve Geary (who is registered as blind), being trailed in the second kayak by his sighted colleague Sim. Amongst the hate and the horror of our world it is wonderful to have such commitment to helping others. I salute a man of such courage and humility. I wish them both luck and am looking forward to seeing on their return on 21 st July".

The photograph also shows Volunteer Manager Debbie Ross and her son Ben who were on hand to steady the canoe and will be providing logistical support for the two brave canoeists who will have to negotiate 29 locks and a 500 foot tunnel on their journey to Westminster Bridge.

Mayors and MPs in Hampshire also send their best wishes to Steve. It is not too late if you would like to sponsor Steve’ s canoe expedition and help over 4,000 sight impaired people in Hampshire who use the charity's services. Please ring Roberta Beer at Open Sight on 02380 646 377 for details.
