Petersfield Opens Gardens to raise money for Home-Start Butser
Eight Petersfield gardens open their gates to visitors in aid of Home-Start Butser this month.
On Sunday, June 24, between 2 pm and 5.30 pm, gardens of all styles and sizes from “tiny to rambly” will be open – including one where you can have a dip in the pool.
Members of St Mary Magdalen Church in Sheet have organized the event to raise money for Home-Start Butser a local independent charity that supports children and families under stress.
Admission to the eight gardens is by rover ticket, priced £3.50 per person (accompanied children £1, under 5s free.)
Tickets are available on the day from 13 Pulens Crescent and at Little Shackles in Harrow Lane. Either of these houses are the starting point and visitors will be provided with a map to discover other gardens. Cream teas will be offered in two of the gardens and one of the gardens has a swimming pool where you can have a swim for a £1 charge.
Organiser Phyllida Carr from Pulens Crescent said: “The main idea is to have a variety of gardens, some quite rambly. We have tried to arrange it so that they are with walking distance of each other.”
Rosie Griffiths said she agreed to open her garden at Little Shackles, Harrow Lane, because she feels so strongly that Home-Start Butser should be supported. “Its such an important charity, and they are struggling for money. There are so many Home-Start volunteers, who don’t get paid, and it’s a local charity helping anyone with young children under five who isn’t coping.”
