Royal British Legion tea dance to commemorate Anzac Day
The Royal British legion will hold a tea dance at Bordon Community Centre on Tuesday April 24 to mark Anzac Day.
Anzac Day falls on April 25 to remember the day in 1915 when troops of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed along with British soldiers, on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. The heroic Gallipoli campaign resulted in a heavy loss of life for the Allied forces and the dance will remember those who fell that day.
The event is open to all and will feature music by the New Covent Garden Orchestra including waltz, quickstep, jive, rumba and many other styles.
Tea will be available, and visitors will have the chance to try the traditional Anzac biscuits originally baked by women at home for soldiers serving overseas.
The dance will be held between 1 and 4pm. Tickets are priced at £4 and are available from British Legion members, or by calling Legion secretary Steve Johnson on 01420 472555. All proceeds from the event go to the Poppy Appeal supporting war veterans.
