How do you have your say?

megaphoneEast Hampshire District Council wants as many people as possible to get involved in decision making.

You can have your say on an issue before it goes to Committee by discussing it with your Ward Councillor, with Councillors on the committee or by sending comments to the Council department dealing with the issue in question. You could also organise a petition, outlining in writing the issue and the action you want taken and obtaining the signatures of people who support your views.

Who can take part?

You are welcome to attend Community Forums and listen to the discussion.  Any member of the public who is resident within the District, on the Council's electoral roll, a Council tax payer, business rate payer, owner or occupier of a property within the District, or is a representative of any of the above, may ask questions at Forum meetings.

When can I ask questions?

At Community Forum meetings, there is a time near the beginning of the meeting for the public to ask questions about local services and matters of interest to them.  The Chairman will answer the question at the meeting, with the help of the officers present.  If a question cannot be answered at the meeting a written answer will be provided at the next meeting.

However, these questions should relate only to matters of Council policy and they should not be about 'exempt' or 'confidential' matters. Exempt matters could include those of a legal, commercial or financial nature. If you are not sure whether your question is of an exempt nature, the Democratic Services Team should be able to advise you.

How do I know what is on the agenda?

Agendas are published five working days before a meeting.  You can search them on our website, and they are also displayed in public places, such as libraries.
