Fraud - What happens to the Benefit overpaid?

Where a person has been paid benefit that they should not have got, they will be required to repay it back to the Council. East Hampshire District Council actively seeks to recover all overpayments of benefit and if necessary will seek recovery through the County Court system (CCJ’s) to ensure that the money is paid back into the public purse.
