                             Health & Safety Law Poster

As of the 6th April 2009, HSE is publishing new versions of its approved health and safety poster and leaflet.

The new version (pictured below right) are eye catching and easy to read. They set out in simple terms , using numbered lists of basic points, what employers must do and tell you what to do if there is a problem.

The poster has changed following research that showed that versions produced in 1999 were visually unappealing and rarely read. Both workers and employers can expect to benefit from the increased awareness and clearer understanding of key health & safety messages that the new versions bring.

Employers can, if they wish , continue to use their exisiting versions of the poster and leaflet until 5th April 2014, as long as they are readable and the addresses of the enforcing authority and  the Employment Medical Advisory Service are upto date.

As from the 6th April 2009 it will only be possble to buy the new poster and paocket cards.

Employers will be able to check that they have a genuine HSE law poster by checking the unique, serially numbered hologram on each poster.

'Health & Safety Law - what you should know'
Employers have a duty under the Health and Safety Information for Employees Regulations 1989 (HSIER) to display the poster in a prominent position in each workplace or provide each worker with a copy of the equivalent leaflet/pocket card outlining British health and safety laws. There are blank spaces on the poster which require completing with relevant information for employees. The address of the Enforcing Authority for their workplace,The enforcing authority could be either the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
