Information means providing factual material to people about risks and Health and Safety measures.
Who needs information?
- Your own employees
- The employees of any staff visiting or sharing your premises
- Any self employed people working for you
- Temporary staff
- Any employment business supplying you with temporary staff or contract labour
- Anyone helping you carry out your health and safety duties
- People visiting the premises.
What information is needed?
- Health and Safety risks
- Precautions for preventing these risks or protecting against them
- Emergency and evacuation procedures
- Responsibilities of employees and others to comply with site rules and safe practices
- How to use work equipment and personal protective equipment.
When is the information needed?
- When a new member of staff first starts work
- When the job they do changes and they face new or increased risk
- When visitors, temporary staff, contractors, etc. arrive on the premises.

- Analyse accident and near miss statistics
- Consider refresher training
- Look at standards for competence. Have they been met?

- Prioritise training

- Is financial help available (Local TECs)
Check that training has worked
- Use feedback from managers and employees
- Check health and safety performance. Has it improved?
- Reflect result in changes in training programme.
