The law states that an inspector can call at any reasonable time. Visits by inspectors will normally be
un-announced routine inspections, or in response to an accident or complaint. Inspectors must carry identification and written authorisation with them at all times, you should always ask to see this, in order to verify they are who they say they are. There is also an obligation on your part not to be obstructive and to co-operate with the inspector.
