    Sprayed Asbestos coatings

All sprayed asbestos coatings should be sealed with a sprayed or brushed polymeric or bituminous coating with suitable fire retardant properties. A check should be made to ensure that the sprayed asbestos is firmly attached to the underlying surface. Loose material should be treated by either:

    - removal by a specialist licensed contractor
    - or if removal would create a greater hazard than exists, the material should be sealed.

    Asbestos Lagging

Where it is not possible to seal any lagging or it is in poor condition or it cannot be protected from mechanical damage then it should be removed by a specialist contractor and replaced with a suitable non-asbestos-containing material. Any lagging found to contain crocidolite (blue asbestos) must be removed by a competent person.

Lagging in good condition which is not subject to or can be protected from mechanical damage can be sealed as before.
