    Food safety talkFood safety

    East Hampshire District Council's Food and Safety team teach the children about safety in the kitchen, handling and preparing food in the kitchen, including raw meat. They are guided through essential food hygene rules, such as when to wash their hands and how to keep food preparation areas clean.


    Fire safety scenario

     

    Fire Safety

    Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service guide the children through two different scenarios based around preventing fires at home and what to do in an emergency. Children are taught the importance of having working smoke detectors fitted in the house, how to contain a fire, the best routes to safety and how to call for help including 999 calls.

     

     

    Personal SafetyHampshire Police personal safety scenario

    Hampshire Police make children aware of potentially dangerous situations when being approached by strangers, and informs them how to deal with a real life situation involving a stranger. 

    The officer then guides the group through making a 999 call to the emergency services and tells them what pieces of information the Police would require from them about the situation.


     

     

    First Aid scenarioFirst Aid

    South Central Ambulance Service teach children about basic first aid techniques and rules. Children are informed about how to react in situations where someone could be unwell or injured and are given the best courses of action to take. The children are guided through making a 999 call to the ambulance service.

     

     


     

    Army scenarioRange Safety

    Soldiers from the School of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers teach the children about the dangers they could face when passing through military land, and how to deal with potentially dangerous situations.

    Each group is warned of the consequences of picking up any spent bullet or shell cases or other types of used or unused ordanance often seen on the firing ranges, they are told what to look out for and informed of how to avoid getting into dangerous situations.

     

    EHDC Dog wardens

    Handling strange dogs safely and responsible dog owning

    East Hampshire District Council's team of Dog Wardens make the children aware of how to deal safely with situations involving strange dogs. As an example, children are informed of what to do if they were to find a stray dog on the loose near a busy road. The group is also taught the rules of responsible dog ownership and the importance of cleaning up after your dog when walking in public open spaces.

     

     

    Road Safety Judging stopping distances of traffic

    Hampshire County Council's Road Safety team guide the children through various exercises surrounding road safety. Judging stopping distances is an important part of this scenario, with the group given a practical exercise to make them more aware of how to estimate the speed traffic is travelling and how long it would take a vehicle to slow down from that speed. Children are also taught about being a pedestrian and  how to cross roads safely.

     

     

    Rail safety scenarioRail Safety

    South West Trains' Youth Education Team & the British Transport Police highlight the dangers associated with being near a railway line.

    Children are informed of the importance of never playing near the railway, including the dangers of the live rail and fast approaching trains. The group is also guided through safely travelling by train.
