Welcome to the Beacon Council Page for Affordable Housing
East Hampshire District Council has attained a Beacon Council award by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for our work in Affordable Housing.
Throughout the South East Region, people are facing difficulties accessing good quality housing at an affordable price. The Sustainable Communities plan launched by the Deputy Prime Minister on 5 February 2003 set out a programme of action to increase the supply of market and affordable housing.
Increasing demand for affordable housing is especially relevant in East Hampshire. Our location commands high house prices and is just one hour commuting time from London. Consequently housing demand is high with those on low and moderate incomes, unable to afford to buy.
