Housing Development - HARAH
Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing
The Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing (HARAH) was set up in 2005 to ensure that regional government and funding bodies recognised the importance of the need for affordable rural housing. Two of the key objectives of the alliance are to maximise investment in affordable housing in rural villages across Hampshire and achieve high standards of development, management and community involvement.
HARAH is a partnership between East Hampshire District Council, 5 other Hampshire Local Authorities and the Rural Housing Enablers through Community Action Hampshire. Hyde Housing Association was selected by HARAH to build these homes through the alliance in rural exception sites - where housing is needed within Hampshire. The Housing Corporation has allocated over £7 million to build rural affordable homes in Hampshire, which Hyde will use in the next two years for building affordable rented and Newbuild HomeBuy (Shared Ownership) homes.
Affordable Housing for Local People
The HARAH partnership uses shared resources and best practice to deliver the maximum number of homes. HARAH typically works in parishes with a population of less than 3,000, building homes on 'exception' sites. These are sites that wouldn't normally be built in a village but can be if there is a local identified housing need and the housing built is affordable in perpetuity for local people.
