Private Sector Housing - Home Safety Grant
Home safety grants to a maximum of £2,000 can be provided on a discretionary basis to help low income households and vulnerable persons pay for urgent works necessary to reduce or eliminate serious risks to health and safety (the minimum paid will be £50).
Eligibility of Grant
Available to home owners and long leaseholders who have been resident in their existing home for at least the past 12 months and have a legitimate and reasonable contractual responsibility for the repair and maintenance of their home. Priority will be given to low income, vulnerable households.
Qualifying Works
Following a 'risk assessment' using the Housing Heath and Safety Rating System
(HHSRS) by one of our officers, or our agents, at the discretion of the Council, a Home Safety Grant will be considered for the reasonable cost of the works necessary to:
• prevent falls and/or reduce or eliminate other immediate risks that are likely to cause serious harm or
injury e.g. repairs to floors, staircases, steps, ceilings, roofs, heating appliances and dangerous
electrical wiring.
• home adaptations to enable an elderly, infirm or disabled person to have a 'Helpline' community alarm service connected (does not include regular service cost).
• install appropriate home security measures where the applicant is deemed to be at risk.
