Housing Needs - Housing for Single People
Leaving home is one of the hardest decisions that you will ever have to make. You must ask yourself the following questions before you make the final decision to go.
* Where will I stay?
* How will I pay for the accommodation?
* Have I got enough money?
* Who can I talk to?
You can go to your local housing office where a Housing Adviser will be able to help you. The amount of help they can give you will depend upon your individual circumstances. If you are over the age of 16, you can register onto the Joint Housing Register for permanent housing, although some Housing Associations may have restrictions on giving a tenancy to anyone who is not 18 years of age.
If you are in housing need, it is important that you complete an application form as it will assist the Council in planning for the future.
If you are under the age of 18, the local social services may be able to assist you but they will need to do an 'assessment', which will involve many questions so you must be prepared to talk honestly.
