Private Sector Housing - Mobile Park Homes
All forms of 'mobile home' site e.g. Park homes, Mobile homes, Static Holiday Caravans, Touring Caravans etc. are covered by the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960. Under the Act every site that has planning permision to operate as a site (including single home sites) must also be 'Licensed' with the Local Authority, by the owner.
Licensed Sites
There are 7 Residential mobile park home sites (excluding single home sites), with over 500 mobile homes in the District. There are also 3 'Static' Holiday sites and 3 'Touring Van' sites.
The Private Sector Housing Team are responsible for ensuring that the 'site conditions' attached to the 'site licence' are met and adhered to by the owner of the site. The owner in turn, must ensure that the residents, tenants or users of their site, comply with the site conditions attached to their licence.
Site Conditions
The 'site conditions' attached to each 'site licence' set out minimum 'health and safety standards' for that particular site. The site conditions cover issues such as;
- Access
- Site boundaries
- Layout (including minimum distances between homes)
- Fire Risk Assessment
- Gas installations and storage
- Electrical safety
- Water supply
- Drainage, sanitation and washing facilities
The Private Sector Housing Team carry out annual inspections and where necessary more frequent inspections to assess compliance with the site conditions. These visits help us monitor and act on any health and safety issues or concerns.
