    Home Improvement Loan

When a structural defect in a home causes a potential for significant harm, serious thought should be given to carrying out remedial works to make the property safe.
With funding from the Regional Housing Board, East Hampshire District Council can provide interest free loans to owner occupiers (including leaseholders) to make their homes safer.

    • These loans entail no monthly repayments, but require only one repayment when the property ownership is transferred.
    • The property must be the main residence of the owner and must contain a significant hazard as perceived under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System by a Private Sector Housing Officer.
    • The maximum loan available is £25,000 and the minimum loan amount is £2000.
    •  To be eligible for a Home Improvement Loan, the property must be more than 10 years old and there needs to be at least £50,000 equity in the home after all charges on the property.
    • Eligibility is subject to a financial means test but as a general guide up to approximately £17,000 household income after tax, savings of up to approximately £90,000 or a combination will be considered for a loan.

All loans are at the discretion of the Council. For more information call Stephen Edmonds on 01730 234334
