Completing the Application Form
Your application form plays an important part in our selection process. Based upon the information you provide, we decide whether you meet our requirements and if your application will be progressed. It is therefore vital that you include all the information you wish us to know on your application form. Before completing the form, please read all the information you have which is relevant to the post.
We ask that all applicants complete an application form for consistency and ease of selection. The form allows you to demonstrate to us that you meet the requirements of the job.
The recruitment and selection process
We are committed to operating a fair and equitable recruitment and selection process for determining the best person for the job. Each applicant will be assessed against predetermined criteria and the person best matching these criteria will be appointed.
Job description and person specification
Look carefully at these documents. The job description details the duties of the post whilst the person specification lists the skills, knowledge, competencies, qualifications, and experience required.
Do a rough draft
If you first write your application in draft it will avoid mistakes and repetition and ensure that the final version is well organised, well presented and relevant.
Education, qualifications and training
Make sure you list all your relevant qualifications and training details, especially those specified for this job. You will be asked to produce your certificates if you are selected for interview.
Employment history, experience and achievements
When listing your employment history ensure that dates are correct and in the right order. Pick out the skills, knowledge, competencies, and experience relevant to this job and provide evidence that you possess them. This is where you can tell us about any community, voluntary or unpaid work which may have equipped you with additional skills other than those gained through your employment.
Supporting statements
This is your opportunity to demonstrate why you are a suitable candidate, so write in a concise, well organised and positive way. Try to support your application by providing additional information about your reasons for applying. Explain what you hope to gain from the post and what experience, skills and benefits you could bring to the Council. It is helpful if you are able to include examples.
References
You must give two referees that have managerial/supervisory responsibility for you, one of whom must be your manager with your current/most recent employer. We reserve the right to ask for substitute referees if the ones you have provided are not deemed to be suitable. If you have not worked for some time or have not worked, please give the name of someone who can comment on your ability to do the job.
Declaration
Any false statement given within the application form may disqualify you from employment or render you liable to dismissal.
Equal opportunities
We are committed to equality of opportunity and we are seeking to ensure that our workforce reflects the community we serve. To ensure our policy is carried out effectively we ask all applicants to complete a short questionnaire asking questions relating to ethnic origin, disability, gender, age, dependents and marital status. This information is confidential and is used only for monitoring purposes. You are, however, under no obligation to complete the form. This page will be separated from the rest of the form and kept confidentially by the HR Team.
Good Luck With Your Application!
