    Food premises registration

Any food business which produces, processes, stores or distributes food must register the building (or vehicle) with the local authority.

The application for registration must be made at least 28 days before the food operation is due to start.

After the premises is opened the premises will be inspected to ensure that you are complying with the relevant food safety legislation.

You have a duty to ensure that the local authority always has all the up to date information about your food business, so you must notify any significant changes in your business and if the business closed.

There is no charge for the registration procedure.

    Eligibility criteria

    No provision in legislation.

    Regulation summary

This registration is regulated under Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 laying down specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin.
A summary of the regulation relating to this licence can be found on the Eur-lex website (external link).

    Application evaluation process

No provision in the legislation however if the application is satisfactory you will receive a letter confirming safe receipt of your application. The letter only confirms that you are registered, it does not confirm that you are complying with the food safety legislation.

If the form is not complete we will contact you or send the form back identifying what is required. Once we are satisfied with the information certain parts of it will be put on a public register.

    Will tacit consent apply?

Yes, however we will endeavour to ensure that all the correct information has been received before it is entered onto the public register.
