There are two different application forms for road closures - one for larger events, and one for smaller events such as street parties.

    Street parties and fetes

    These are:
    • usually for residents only (fewer than 500 people)
    • only residents traffic will be effected
    • diversionary routes will not be necessary for any road closures
    • publicity only to residents
    • no licences normally necessary if music incidental and no selling is involved
    • no liability insurance required but it is strongly recommended
    • no formal risk assessment needed
    • self-organised

    Larger public events

You need a different application form than for street parties and fetes.
    • anyone can attend (but could also be a larger, residents only, gathering)
    • through traffic affected (for example bus routes)
    • road closures are likely to require diversionary routes
    • external publicity (such as in newspapers)
    • licence usually needed – especially if you are planning a fireworks display, entertainment is provided or alcohol is sold, or where food is provided late at night – (check with local District Council)
    •  liability insurance needed for road closures
    •  risk assessment common
    • usually arranged by professional/skilled organisers

    Application forms

We want to make it simple for you to hold street parties and local events. Download the correct form for your event from the bottom of the page.

If you plan to have a pay bar or intend to provide entertainment for the wider public with the intention of making a profit you will also need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice licence (TEN) which costs £21. You will need to give us at least 10 working days.

How long will it take to apply?

Generally street party road closure forms and licence application forms need to be submitted at least six weeks in advance of your event to avoid disappointment.

    How much will it cost?

A Temporary Event Notice licence costs £21.

You should also plan to cover other costs such as:

    • Public liability insurance
    • Any equipment you need such as road closure signs or tables and chairs
    • Food and drink
    • Party decorations, etc
