Skin piercing registration
To offer skin-piercing treatments - including tattooing, acupuncture, ear piercing and electrolysis - both the person performing the treatment and the premises must be registered with the local authority.
Eligibility criteria
You must provide specific information including details of your premises, the process involved and details of any previous convictions.
A fee is charged for registration.
Regulation summary
This registration is regulated under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.

You must also comply with bye-laws which cover issues including cleanliness of premises, sterilisation of instruments etc (see 'Related documents' below).
Application evaluation process
The application will be reviewed to ensure that it is complete. If it is not the application will be returned to you advising what is additional information is needed.
A visit to your premises and a discussion with you will also need to be carried out as part of the application process.
Will tacit consent apply?
