Street trading consent
If you trade in the street you may require a street trading consent.
Applications should be made in writing (including by electronic means) to your local district council, or the district council for the area you wish to trade.
You must provide specific information, including details of the street you wish to trade on and the days and times you wish to trade.
You may also be required to provide two photographs of yourself.
You must comply with any conditions attached to a licence.
Eligibility criteria
You must be over 17 years of age to hold a licence.
Consents are either granted in full, granted with amendments (e.g. times plus days) or refused. A set of conditions will be attached to all consents.
Regulation summary
The powers to regulate and issue licences are contained in the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 (external link to Office of Public Sector Information website).
Application evaluation process
The council aims to make a decision within 28 days of receipt of a correct application but it may take a maximum of 60 days. A consent may be withdrawn by EHDC at any time.
Will tacit consent apply?
No. It is in the public interest that we must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us after 60 days, please contact us:

Consumer complaint
We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form a letter (with proof of delivery).
If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK, Consumer Direct (external link) will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre (external link).
