Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is there to help local people who need accommodation but are unable to afford market prices.
The council no longer manages or provides affordable housing. This is done by not-for-profit organisations called housing associations. They sell or rent properties at a lower cost than market prices and manage over 6,000 homes in this area.
The council operates a joint housing register which all the housing associations with stock in the district are signed up to. When a vacancy occurs the council nominates from this list. Priority is given to households in the greatest housing need.
There is more information about the different affordable housing schemes, including special opportunities for key workers, on the housing pages of the website.
Telephone: 01730 234345, 234377, 234394, 234397 or 234378 (joint housing register) and the housing advisors will send you an application form. (check whether form available online).
