The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)
The SHLAA is an assessment of potential housing sites throughout the district. The purpose of the assessment is to demonstrate that there would be a sufficient number of deliverable sites to meet future housing demand.
The SHLAA does not allocate sites for housing and cannot be used for development control purposes.
What deliverable means
To be deliverable, potential housing sites must be:
- Available – The site is available for development now.
- Suitable – The site offers a suitable location for development and would contribute to the creation of sustainable, mixed communities.
- Achievable – There is a reasonable prospect that housing will be delivered on the site.
SHLAA Process Update
East Hampshire District Council’s first tranche SHLAA report was published in 2009 and can be viewed at the bottom of the page, along with the second and third tranche update reports from 2010 and 2011. Links to individual sites are also provided below, where you can view the site maps and documents setting out the reasons why they have either been included or excluded from the list of potential sites.
Housing Market Areas
Our district lies within two Housing Market Areas: South Hampshire and Central Hampshire. A Housing Market Area is a geographical area defined by household demand and preferences for housing. They reflect the key links between places where people live and work. The boundary for the two areas follows that of the proposed National Park. The sites in the three southern parishes of Clanfield, Horndean and Rowlands Castle have therefore been split between the two different areas.
