Planning Development - pre-application advice
It is always helpful to find out whether a proposal needs planning permission before you submit an application.
The Planning Portal website gives much of the information you need, including a volume calculator but we strongly recommend you obtain written confirmation, through Planning Development, of whether or not any householder proposal requires planning permission.
You can do this by completing the form Is planning permission needed? which you can download as a pdf or get from the council offices. You can then send it to: East Hampshire District Council, Planning Services, Penns Place, Petersfield, Hants GU31 4EX .
You can also e-mail details to planningdev@easthants.gov.uk,
The next step
When we receive the form, e-mail or letter, we will confirm within 10 working days in writing whether or not planning permission is required. (The letter will also help if you are planning to sell the property and the buyer has any queries).
If your proposal does need planning permission, we are happy to offer advice on how likely it is that permission would be granted. It will help you and us to have a half hour meeting which could improve your application, reduce any later changes and simplify and speed up the process.
If you would like a meeting with our Enquiries Planning Officer, call 01730 234246 to make an appointment. Please bring a sketch of your proposal, photographs, and any other information you think may be helpful.
Please note: there is a charge for this service if the proposal relates to non-householder development and payment will be required before the meeting.
See our Charges page for more details.
At this stage, it would also be useful to tell your neighbours about your ideas as this may avoid potential problems or misunderstanding at a later date.
