    Garden Waste Collection Service

Householders and keen gardeners of East Hampshire will have the option to purchase a wheeled bin to place their prunings, grass and hedge cuttings into, when they sign up to East Hampshire District Council’s Garden Waste Collection Service.

From 1 April 2013 East Hampshire Distrcict Council introduced  the option of  a brown wheeled bin capable of holding 240 litres of garden waste for those who generate more garden waste will be available, as well as the previously offered 90 litre re-useable sack

East Hampshire District Council has listened to residents’ requests for larger containers to improve the popular and convenient scheme gives residents in the district the option of paying an annual fee to join the service, which collects garden waste from the boundary of properties every two weeks.

The annual cost for a wheeled bin license will be £55.00, whilst one re-useable sack license will now be £30.00, plus the one-off purchase cost of the sack or wheeled bin. The full range of service prices will be:

    • Wheeled Bin Licence £55.00
    • First Licence – sack £30.00
    • Second and Additional Sack Licences £25.00
    • Benefits Concession – sack only £15.00
    • Purchase of wheeled bin and delivery £27.11
    • Purchase of sack and delivery £5.00

The slight increase to the cost of licences in April 2013 is the first increase in five years and reflects the ongoing increase in waste collection costs.

This collection service continues to represent great value for money with garden waste being collected 26 times per year, equating to a cost of just £2.12 per collection for a wheeled bin and £1.15 per collection for the re-usable sack.

All garden waste collected goes to a composting site in Hampshire and is made into the Progrow brand of organic soil-conditioner, which is widely used in local parks and formal gardens. Alternateively, garden waste can be disposed of at your local amenity site.

Residents who wish to sign up to the new garden waste service should call Customer Services on 0300 300 0013.

Your garden sack or bin should be placed out for collection on the same day as your refuse bin.

Check your bin collection calendars to find out what day that will be.
