Recycling your food scraps and garden waste

Green JohannaWe encourage people to compost as much of their garden and kitchen waste as possible, and we also offer a garden waste collection service for a very small annual fee. You can also take any extra garden waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre or HWRC.

    Garden waste collection service

We provide a service for collecting your garden waste from the kerbside. The fortnightly kerbside collections are on the same day as your recycling, but by a different vehicle.

    Kitchen waste digesters pilot project

Did you know that residents in specially selected areas of East Hampshire trialled different types of food digesters at home for us?

We provided 2 different types of digester. We looked at how much food waste was taken out of the waste stream in the trial areas and how successful the digesters are in breaking the waste down to usable compost.

Type 1: The Green Cone - takes all kitchen waste but not garden waste.

Type 2: The Green Johanna - takes kitchen and garden waste. It is a hot composter.

You can find out more about both on the Green Cone website, linked below.

You can buy wormeries from the Green Cone site, or you can make your own for a fraction of the cost, using old car tyres or plastic boxes.
