Recycling - Black Bins
In East Hampshire the black bins are for recycling which needs to be clean, dry and loose.
Please recycle the following:
- newspapers / magazines, brochures and cardboard (NOT take-away pizza boxes!)
- Yellow Pages & telephone directories
- cans and tins (clean food and drink cans)
- plastic bottles (clean with no lids please)
- Domestic empty aerosols (without the skull and crossbones or the black cross symbols).
Please do not squash or pierce the cans and please remove any plastic lids.
What can't go in the bin!
Common examples of non-recyclables are:
- other plastics (plastic bags or hard plastics, like yoghurt pots or margarine tubs)
- glass (bottles and jars can go in your glass box or local bottle bank)
- shredded or tissue paper
- polystyrene
- Tetra Paks (drinks cartons)
Excess recycling
We will collect as much recycling as you (as a domestic household) can put out. You may have several black wheeled bins if you would like. Alternatively if it is put beside the bin in an open box or in clear bin liners we will take it.
Please do not leave cardboard boxes out if it is likely to rain before your collection, they can be impossible to pick up and could damage the machinery.
You can also recycle extra items at household waste recycling centres (HWRCs). You may also know them as the dump, or the tip. These are run by Hampshire County Council.
There are also a number of bottle and textile banks around the district, look in a car park near you!
Missed bin
If your waste hasn't been collected it may be because you had the wrong kind of waste in the bin, overloaded the bin, put out the wrong bin by mistake, or you hadn't put out your bin in time.
Glass collections
Our residents can now put out a box containing their bottles and jars out for collection by 7am every other black (recycling) bin collection day, which means it is once every four weeks.
Garden waste collections
In East Hampshire there is a fortnightly garden waste collection service, at a cost of £25 per year (more for each additional sack).
This should be put out on the same day as your green REFUSE bin. If you would like to join this service, or require extra sacks please call our customer services.
