Recycling

Here you can find out what to recycle, why, and how.

East Hampshire's recycling record

In 1999 the recycling rate for our district was just 8%. By 2006/2007, the rate had climbed to 35.0%

We are still amongst the top recyclers in the UK. We are currently averaging 38% pro-rata for 2007/08. We are aiming for 40%!

As a result of the hard work of residents and the council, EHDC was awarded Beacon Council status for its waste, recycling and streetcare services in 2006/07.
See our Beacon Council information page for more details...

We were also awarded a Charter Mark for Environmental Services, which includes Refuse and Recycling.

Climate change

It seems impossible at the moment to open the paper, or switch on the TV or radio, without hearing about climate change and global warming. Many of us feel we are too powerless to help – after all, how much difference can one person make?

But nothing could be further from the truth. Every item you recycle, every bit of packaging you refuse, every carrier bag you save, all helps reduce carbon emissions, thus reducing the effects of climate change. By thinking about your actions you can make a really big difference.

Take a look at our Climate Change pages for more information.
