In very exceptional circumstances we may allow relief on a rates bill in cases of hardship. When deciding whether to award relief we must take into account many factors, including the benefits which the business provides to the local community and the profitability of the business.

Transitional arrangements
Every five years, all non-domestic properties are subject to a revaluation. The transitional arrangements are in place during this five year period so that the effects of any large increases and decreases in the annual rates bill for a property will be phased in.

Small Business Relief
This is available at 50% for ratepayers occupying single properties with a rateable value up to £5,000, with relief declining in percentage terms on a sliding scale until it is 0% at £10,000.

Community Amateur Sports Club Relief
Properties occupied by sports clubs registered with the Inland Revenue as a CASC are entitled to 80% relief. We also have discretion to give further relief on the remaining bill. Full details can be obtained from the Business Rates Team on 01730 266551.
