East Hampshire District Council is encouraging and supporting groups and individuals, who want to ‘do their bit’ to join the growing team of #LitterHeroes and help clear up the litter that blights our towns, villages and countryside.
People taking part in the event, will be able to use litter picking equipment supplied by East Hampshire’s street cleansing contractor Idverde to clear litter from an area of your choice.
Cllr Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: 'It is clear that littering is a major bugbear for residents and we do all we can to catch the culprits and fine them through our zero tolerance policy. The Great British Spring Clean is a chance for communities to get together with us to make our neighbourhoods look even better and we look forward to working in partnership with practical help and useful advice.'
Residents can register their own litter picks by emailing Idverde directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Litter remains a huge problem across the country, causing harm to the environment and wildlife, with councils in England having to spend over £700 million on street cleaning services every year.
