Trees (Tree Preservation Orders)

The council has two arboricultural officers available to give advice to members of the public who own protected trees, as well as council departments and outside bodies.
Their role includes making new tree preservation orders and orders for trees in conservation areas.
The council produces a number of advice leaflets on trees. There is also advice available on high hedges.
The council will consider formal complaints about high hedges if the matter cannot be resolved. There is a £500 charge for this service but we do recommend that you try mediation first.

The council is also responsible for all trees on its land. A survey carried out early in 2008 established there are approximately 4500 trees.
As a tree owner we have a direct responsibility to ensure that our trees do not pose a danger to the public or property and are managed appropriately.
