Travel concessions

PLEASE NOTE: the following information applies to the Concessionary Travel scheme operated by East Hampshire District Council until 31st March 2011. After that date a replacement scheme will be operated by Hampshire County Council
Concessionary Travel is currently available to residents of the district who are 60 years of age and over or disabled.
Starting from 6 April 2010, due to changes in retirement age legislation, this age will move upwards at the rate of two months for every one month of age.
There is a ready reckoner available on the directgov website but please note that in order to calculate your eligibility age, you should enter your gender as ‘female’ into the calculator even if you are male (because the concession age works on the female retirement age, which is now being realigned with the male retirement age in response to a European Court of Human Rights judgement).
Bus and rail companies will continue to accept travel tokens
Bus and rail companies in East Hampshire have confirmed they will continue to accept travel tokens, despite recent changes in the scheme.
East Hampshire District Council’s concessionary travel scheme, which gave elderly and disabled residents tokens to travel, has been replaced by a new scheme provided by Hampshire County Council.
Despite the switch the National Transport Tokens will continue to be accepted for the forseeable future as part or full payment of fares by Emsworth and District buses, Stagecoach South West Trains and all other national rail franchise operators.
Stagecoach South bus services will accept National Transport Tokens until 31 October 2011 while Countryliner buses will accept the tokens on bus services up to and including 31 May 2011.
If you wish to find out more details on the new concessionary travel scheme contact Hampshire County Council’s Concessionary Travel Team on 0845 045 8355 or email: concessionary.fares@hants.gov.uk
