Clubs and charities face end of May deadline for grant bids

Community groups have until the end of May to apply for their share of £400,000 of grant money from East Hampshire District Council.

In 2019 the council set aside £1 million to be distributed to worthy projects and good causes over three consecutive years.

More than £400,000 is left in the pot for local clubs and organisations to apply for – but they only have until 5pm on 31 May 2021 to get their bids in.

Cllr Julie Butler, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Welfare and Community Integration, said: “When we set aside this money in 2019 we knew there would be a demand for funding from our community groups and charities.

“They do so much great work in our communities and often know best what needs to be done to provide opportunities and support for our residents.

“Since the coronavirus pandemic struck that need has become even greater, so we have opened up our grant criteria to cover projects supporting the recovery from coronavirus.

“This money is there to help you and your community – so if you have a project that will help local people but needs financial support, then please get in touch with us.”

This year the council confirmed it is making a further £1 million available to support local groups for another three years, from 2022 to 2025.

Applications must demonstrate how they will help the council support the wellbeing of residents, improve lives and enhance access to support services for those who are vulnerable.

Applications must support at least one of three community benefits:

  1. supporting positive mental health in residents, in particular young people
  2. reducing social isolation in residents, particularly older people
  3. supporting the recovery of residents from the coronavirus pandemic
