Don’t lose your voice - East Hampshire residents urged to check their voter registration details

The annual canvass of the electoral register begins on 23 August this year.

East Hampshire District Council will sending letters and forms to every household around the district over the coming weeks to ensure that voter details are correct and up to date. We have to do this every year by law.

All properties will receive either a notification letter or a canvass form. Please look out for yours, check it for accuracy and follow the instructions provided.

It’s important that you don’t ignore these documents. It will tell you what action you need to take so we can confirm who is eligible to vote at your address.

Please check the forms and only respond where required as soon as you can, the easiest way is to do it online.

What is the annual canvass of the electoral register?

The annual canvass ensures that East Hampshire District Council can keep the electoral register up to date, identifying any residents who are not registered to vote so that they can do so in future elections.

Notification letters and canvass forms are sent to every household giving details of what information is currently held on the electoral register about that property.

Occupiers are required to check the information and confirm that it is correct or make any changes that are necessary so a revised register can be published on 1 December.

What do you need to do?

Simply follow the instructions on the front of the form you have received.

You only need to confirm that it is correct if the form tells you to, but you must tell us if the information is wrong, or if it has changed.

The easiest way to do it is by entering part one and part two security codes from your form online at www.householdresponse.com/easthampshire

If there are no changes, you can also respond by calling 0800 197 9871 or texting NOCHANGE to 80212 – you only need to tell us if your form asks you to.

Each new person will also have to register individually at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
