Magnificent seven chosen to benefit from the Charity Walk for Peace

Seven good causes stand to gain vital funding from this September’s Charity Walk for Peace.

The annual fund-raising walk is held in partnership between East Hampshire District Council and Charity Walk for Peace – an initiative of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Elder Association (AMEA).

Traditionally many hundreds would join the walk around Petersfield, but this year the event has been scaled back to meet coronavirus regulations.

None-the-less, organisers hope to raise a significant sum of money on the day, while charities have been asked to hold their own walks in their own communities to support the event across the district.

The charities benefiting from the 2021 Charity Walk for Peace are:

  • Havant & East Hants MIND
  • Liss Crossover Centre
  • Swallows Trampolining Club – Disability section
  • Artscape
  • The Kingsley Organisation
  • Dementia Friendly
  • Attenborough Explorer Scout Group

Cllr Julie Butler, EHDC Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Welfare and Community Integration, said: “Charities and community groups have had a very difficult time of it over the last 18 months.

“Many of them rely on fundraising events for their livelihoods and with so many of these cancelled during the pandemic a lot of organisations are really feeling the pinch financially.

“That’s why I am delighted we will be able to support the seven chosen charities this year and give them the much-needed funding boost.”

East Hampshire’s walk is one of many held around the country by the Charity Walk for Peace.

Zakariyya Choudhry, Regional Head of the Charity Walk for Peace, said: “It’s great to see which charities are going to benefit from our walk this year.

“After all, the main reason we hold the walks is to raise money for local charities and support our local communities.

“I am looking forward to seeing what they organise in their own area and I hope we can help them raise a lot of money to support their vital work.”
