Discretionary energy rebate scheme

As part of the government’s initiative to help households with rising energy costs, a £150 utility energy rebate was announced for certain households. The application process for the council tax energy rebate scheme closed on 25 September 2022.

Households that are not eligible to receive the £150 energy rebate can now apply for the council’s discretionary scheme.

To qualify for the discretionary energy rebate scheme, you must:

  • be living in a property valued in council tax bands E-H and be in receipt of council tax support, housing benefit, working family tax credit* or universal credit* on 1 April 2022 - or
  • have a liability for rent on 1 April 2022, pay the energy bill, and be in receipt of housing benefit, working family tax credit* or universal credit*.

*You must be receiving regular payments from working family tax credit or universal credit.

All payments are subject to fraud checks.

This scheme will close on Sunday 25 September 2022.
